Two detection layers, two jobs

In practice the layers chain together: the RF layer says something is flying, the RID layer says whose it is and where it took off. For procurement, decide which layer answers your threat model first — then add the second only where the first has a proven gap.
The open-source route
A fourth option exists below the commercial table: build it. The WarDragon project (RTL-SDR based, RID plus DJI DroneID decoding) and the AryaOS reference architecture run on roughly $300–500 of hardware — with real limits. You maintain it, you tune it, and nobody answers a support line when decoding drops in a crowded RF environment. For labs and technical teams it is a legitimate path; for operations that need accountability, it is a hobby.
